Vita Nova Group– for Integrative Medicine

There is a well known connection between body and mind. That connection can have far reaching consequences on every aspect of your overall health, up to and including your immune system. Integrative medicine explores that connection, treating the whole body, as well as the spirit and the mind.

Integrative medicine is an up and coming branch of medicine that deals with holistic health in a whole new way. Slowly, integrative medicine is leaving its mark on medical schools, on hospitals, and in colleges and universities across the United States. Today integrative medicine is being promoted and taught at such prestigious universities as Harvard, Georgetown, University of Pennsylvania and even Columbia. These schools have come together to  create a  group known as the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine.

    What is Integrative Medicine?

flower    Integrative medicine is an up and coming branch of medicine that deals with holistic health in a whole new way. Slowly, integrative medicine is leaving its mark on medical schools, on hospitals, and in colleges and universities across the United States.

Integrative medicine is a viable option for children, for adults, for the elderly, as well as for newborns and those who are working to  deal with a chronic or acute disease process.

The methodology behind integrative medicine is that a partnership is formed between you and your doctor, which allows the physician to treat body, mind, and spirit. Dr. Carchedi believes in the value of integrative medicine, which treats the whole patient, not only the disease process.

In some cases, the treatment and therapy used in integrative medicine will be slightly unconventional. This does not mean that those therapies are not common and are not based in hard fact and research. Certain guiding principles exist in integrative medicine which promote the use of  some types of unconventional therapy, but only those which have hard evidence to back their use.

Why Haven’t I Heard of Integrative Medicine?

Most people have not been exposed to integrative medicine. They are accustomed to the more rushed medical arena, where brief visits with your doctor take place. You may or may not be examined in the traditional medical visit, often spending less than ten minutes with your doctor. This tends to leave physicians in the health care system feeling ineffectual and patients feeling rushed and less than well cared for.

Integrative medicine offers more treatment options and more time with your doctor. (your first appointment may last an hour or more as you and the doctor get to know each other) You, as a client will be left with a more positive feeling. You will know that you are more than just your diabetes, a diseased colon, or a scarred liver. Integrative medicine will offer you the chance to be more than the sum of your disease process.

What Makes Integrative Medicine So Popular?

Esther Sternberg, MD, well known advocate of integrative medicine and author of “The Balance Within, The Science Connecting Health and Emotions”, explains that “Patients want to be considered whole human beings in the context of their world. ”   This essentially expresses what integrative medicine is all about. You are partnered with your physician, responsible, or at least in part, for your own good health.

Dr. Carchedi and staff invite you to make an appointment with the Vita Nova Group to experience all that integrative medicine may be able to offer you.
